This morning, I was one of those runners who joined Anson’s Rhythm and Run at McKinley Hill. It was my first time to run at McKinley Hill and boy was that tiring! But to sum it all up, I think it was a good clean race. There were enough drinking stations along the 5k route, not so sure though about other distances. The race also started on time, the place wasn’t too crowded and the hosts (boys night out of magic 89.9) really helped get the party started!
At almost every turning point, there were race marshals cheering us on! “You can do it!” “Konti nalang!” and during the last 300m, one race marshal on a motorcycle started announcing the distance left. Somehow this helped me just suck it in and finish the race already!
Once the race was over, several runners gathered by the stage area awaiting the announcement of the grand winners of 3 Macbook pros! Oh wow, I seriously wanted 1 badly! I unfortunately did not win any of the minor or major prizes. Sad! Congratulations though to all those who did!
At one point, the hosts kept calling out numbers that were no longer around that they opted to just give the minor prizes to the first 10 people who get up on stage! The runners however did not like this and started screaming, “Raffle! Raffle!” and so… the raffle proceeded.
Everything went well, except I can’t understand why Anson’s (an appliance center) used a very primitive way of picking the winners for the raffle draw. The numbers were all in a plastic cup and the emcees just picked the numbers. They could’ve used a program that would randomly select numbers and flash it on a white screen. That way, numbers picked would be more random. You see, for several draws, the numbers were all 12… something. or 3 something. Race numbers beginning with 5 and 6 were rarely called.
