Just a few more days till Christmas! Have you decided what to give those special people yet? I’m sure you’re eyeing a cool new shirt or a suave new gadget to give, but before you go splurging all your money on something bought in the store, why not give something from the heart? Why not add a little extra effort and make something for those special people. Nothing beats a handmade gift. I should know, my students always make these! =) ...Read More » Tags Share Comments (0 )

Listening Ears: Big Ears for the Little Kids
by Cheryl Villareal on Aug 20th, 2012
Learning about the five senses can be A LOT of fun! There are just SO MANY activities that can be done! On our lesson about the ears, we decided to create our own pair of LISTENING EARS! So instead of just pretending to “put on” their listening ears during story time, we actually got to try it for real! Once the kids get use to the idea, it becomes a fun way to recall our classroom rules! What you will need: Big ...Read More » Tags Share Comments (0 )

Clay Art in Preschool: Other Ways to Play with Clay
by Cheryl Villareal on Jul 15th, 2012
Clay… Playdough… noodles….these are just some of the many “toys” kids like to play with that really tap several skills all at once! With clay they get to practice their fine motor skills, their imagination, their creativity and so much more! Last summer, another activity Ayala Museum did was Clay Art by Jose Joya. It’s really simple and easy to do! This post isn’t really like my usual tutorials, this really is just some...Read More » Tags Share Comments (1 )

Puncher Pointillism at Ayala Museum
by Cheryl Villareal on Jun 22nd, 2012
From April to May, the Ayala Museum held a bunch of art workshops for the kids. One of these focused on George Seurat’s famous pointillism art! I love how complex and simple this activity can be! So before the actual art activity, a brief intro about George Seurat and pointillism was given. From wikipedia: Pointillism is a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of pure color are applied in patterns to form an im...Read More » Tags Share Comments (5 )

Hot Air Balloon Craft for Kids! Up up and away!
by Cheryl Villareal on May 16th, 2012
I love playing with paper-mache! The activities and the outcomes that can be done with them are countless! During our lesson on different kinds of transportation, we made some HOT AIR BALLOONS! It was fun to see the different reactions from the kids! Some of them were really excited, while others like myself got weak on their knees at the thought of riding a balloon several hundred feet above the ground! What y...Read More » Tags Share Comments (0 )

Art Workshop in Manila for Summer 2012
by Cheryl Villareal on Mar 20th, 2012
One thing I love about being a preschool teacher besides working with my adorable students is the wonderful experiments we get to do day in and day out! Part of these experiments of course is ART! We have different themes per month and the famous artists and their art works was one of our themes this school year. It’s funny how we don’t seem to appreciate the art works of these famous artists and yet kids can find so much joy in ...Read More » Tags Share Comments (1 )

Personalized School Bus with the Old Shoe Box
by Cheryl Villareal on Feb 12th, 2012
This activity was supposedly a really simple art and craft activity for our theme on transportation. However, as we were planning it, more ideas kept popping out and we eventually came up with this. The idea came from the teachers, but it wouldn’t have turned out this great if the kids weren’t as creative! Good job kids! What you will need Shoe box Yellow cartolina/ paper Thin strip of black paper 4 circul...Read More » Tags Share Comments (0 )

Paper Bag Owl Craft
by Cheryl Villareal on Jan 24th, 2012
Whenever learning about the different animals, I always find myself at a crossroads as to what activity to do. There are so many animal crafts all over the internet and art books. All seem to be so wonderful that we always have a hard time deciding which one to go with. For our lesson on animals that fly/ birds, we decided to make an owl craft. My partner and I came up with 2 different ideas and we decided to merge them together. Thi...Read More » Tags Share Comments (0 )

Fun Ear Cleaning Activity with Flour
by Cheryl Villareal on Jan 12th, 2012
Ok, before you feel confused or wonder what I’m doing with flour and ears… it’s an art activity we did in class. We were trying to come up with a way to teach kids about personal hygiene and ear cleaning and this is what we came up with. It was really fun and the kids were really grossed out thinking that the colored flour was real ear wax! - We did the activity not to teach the kids how to clean their ears but to let the kids know WH...Read More » Tags Share Comments (1 )

Puzzled Christmas Wreath
by Cheryl Villareal on Dec 18th, 2011
It’s always fun to come up with a variety of objects to glue unto our Christmas wreaths! Last year, we tried gluing mittens and bottle caps, this year, we tried using old puzzle pieces to make colorful wreaths! So I’m sure most of you have tried letting your kids put together a puzzle or two and after completing it, the puzzle pieces start getting lost one by one. So now you’re left with a box filled with incomplete puzzle pieces, what d...Read More » Tags Share Comments (1 )
