While my co-teachers and I were discussing this activity, I thought to myself… “I wonder how a collage filled with just one shape turn out?” At first, I was even imagining a really boring art work filled with simple squares. But then, as we continued to brainstorm, we decided to use a variety of colors, patterns, sizes and textures. Slowly but surely, the simple square collage became a very lively and creative sensory art!

What you will need:

  • Squares! Squares! Squares! Cut-outs from magazines, brochures, art papers, etc.
  • Yarn
  • Popsicle Sticks
  • Glue
  • Scissors

.

.

.

Step 1: Let the children glue on the different squares. (Make sure you hand them squares in different colors, patterns and textures)

.

.

Step 2: Go 3-D by handing them some yarn and popsicle sticks. Let them form squares using these materials.

.

Step 3: Voila! Marvel at the wonderful masterpiece of squares!

.

Tip: The kids can trace the squares using their finger. This helps them really recognize what a square shape looks like using their sense of touch.
