This week has been really tiring for me. There were a bunch of things we had to get done in the preschool and a lot of Christmas activities to prepare for the 1 and a half week of school before the holiday break. That in mind, I opted not to join any fun runs this week. However, a last minute invite for the Nike Club Run was sent to me Friday night. Though I was hesitant because of my deadlines, I decided to accept the invite.
Saturday night… I usually sleep earlier when I’ve got a run, but I couldn’t sleep that night! I still had a lot of stuff to finish. I ended up falling asleep at around 12 midnight and had to get up at 4am to get ready for the run. Guess what? My alarm didn’t wake me! …or maybe it did but I fell asleep again. (sshhh…hehe) So anyways, I ended up waking up 2 hours later! 6am! Oh no!! 1 hour to gun start! Lucky that gun start was later than usual! I jump out of bed and rushed to take a bath and get dress.
My fiance, Philippe and I arrived at the Fort 5 minutes before gun start and made our way to the VIP tent to claim our race kits. Thanks again Marco. We then rushed to the starting line and just seconds after we had secured our race bib and DTag, the run begun.

Imagine the adrenaline I had rushing in me! It was one of the few times that I was able to run more than a kilometer without stopping to walk. Philippe and I ran the first 2 kilometers together, but after a while, we lost each other and I ran off. I tried my best not to stop, I wanted a good time and to beat my personal record of 30minutes for the 5km category. But my stiff neck was killing me. It started to hurt and got in the way of my running. I couldn’t help but stop to stretch it a bit.
Getting started was difficult though. Imagine the crowd of students walking in front. It was difficult to take over. But soon, the crowd lessened and it was easier to run. There also weren’t too many water stations. I think the first water station was along the 2nd kilometer of the run. I do have to comment on the distance markers though! Really cute! The cartoons here were the dolls they later on gave away as freebies. I just wished I could have 1 with my name on it!

Finally after 30minutes, I spotted the finish line. Usually, this is the part I’d stop and walk, but today, I decided to suck it in. I gave my all to reach the finish line, and by the time I did, I almost vomited because of my dry throat. Lucky I didn’t though.
I finished at around 34 minutes. Not bad. We stayed for a while and awaited the program.
At first, I thought the Nike Club Run was organized to compete with Adidas King of the Road, I later learned though that its main goal was to encourage teenagers to step out of “cyberworld” for a while and enjoy the outdoors. I think it was able to achieve this goal, especially because of the 50,000 cash prize they were giving the school with the biggest delegation.
and the winner is…. JRU! Congratulations you guys!!! great job! Mind sharing a thousand or two? haha kidding! You deserve it!
The Nike Club Run will be my last run for 2010… I think? It was a good run! Job well done Nike! Hoping for more fun runs like this in 2011!
Here are a few pictures from the run, check out my facebook fanpage for more.
