Do you still have your old CDs from way back and have no idea what to do with them? Well why not turn them into animals?
This week, our class studied the concepts of long and short! So to further strengthen the discussion, we had them make elephant CDs and play with its long nose! As I showed them a sample, I also showed them how the nose started short and grew longer and longer! It’s really easy to do and the kids had a lot of fun stretching their elephant’s nose!
- An old CD
- Art Paper (1-4 colors)
- Googly Eyes
- Yarn (Any color)
- Scissors
- Glue

Step 1: Cut the ears and nose of the elephant. Also cut a small circle to cover the hole in the middle of the CD. You may use different colors for the different parts!
.
Step 2: Cut some yarn for the elephant’s hair! You can be as silly as you want to be with the hair color! If yarn is unavailable, you may use art paper instead.

.
Step 3: Fold the nose
.
Step 4: Glue on the circle to cover the hole
.
Step 5: Flip the CD, and glue on the ears
.
Step 6: Flip the CD back up and glue on the nose, googly eyes and hair
In the picture above, we only used 1 color and used black art paper for the hair.
.
We tried to do it again, and the result was better. The pictures below are the children’s works! We let them used a variety of colors for the parts, and black yarn for the hair.
You can also try doing other animals like dogs, cats, lions, etc. Just be creative! I’m sure it’ll be a lot of fun! And if you do try these other animals, do send me an email or post a comment! I’d love to hear all about it!
