Cirque Du Soleil Saltimbanco Aug. 9 – 19, 2012 at the MOA ARENA
On it’s first day in the Philippines, I got to be one of the lucky audience members to witness skilled and talented acrobats fly through the air and bend their bodies like rubber at Cirque Du Soleil Saltimbanco!
I had no idea what the show was all about, all I knew what that it was going to be filled with acrobats doing amazing stunts. What I imagined and expected was only 1/6 of what the show gave me! W-O-W!
Cirque Du Soleil Saltimbanco in Manila
Before I talk about all the Swooshing and thumping, let me first share the other half of Saltimbanco. Cirque Du Soleil Saltimbanco wasn’t just about the jumping and twisting, there were few humorous parts to it as well which I thought really balanced out the whole thing. While waiting for the show to officially start, several “clowns” came out and began interacting with the audience. It was really a funny site to see! They even flipped an audience member… LITERALLY flipped her around! (haha) I can just imagine how she felt – excited and really freakin’ nervous!
Once the show began, picture taking was strictly prohibited WITH OR WITHOUT flash! This was to ensure the safety of the athletes! We wouldn’t want to see them falling 10 stories high because your camera flash distracted them right?
Cirque Du Soleil Saltimbanco is filled with several breath-taking and jaw breaking acts that left me at the edge of my seat! The first performance was the Chinese Pole where the pole athletes performed a variety of tricks on really really tall poles – like 10ft. high (or higher). They climbed the pole so gracefully as if they were ants on a wall! It was NOTHING to them, or at least they made it seem like it!
There were also some stunts where the athletes were left flying in the air and across the stage! One of which, they played on this swing/see-saw type mechanism and they’d jump forward, landing on a mattress. As part of this stunt, they would sometimes jump unto the shoulders of another performer until there were 5-6 of them standing on top of the other! It really freaked me out just watching them! In fact, I almost tore my boyfriend’s shirt as while watching the show! (LOL)
Cirque Du Soleil Saltimbanco is composed of a variety of stunts from pole climbing, bungee jumping and trapeze acts! There were also some “calmer” performances which were equally good and amazing such as bending, juggling and miming!
These are just some of the many many acts you can expect when you watch Saltimbanco! Don’t worry though, as there are some “intermission numbers” between acts that will relax you from the tense performance and really keep you laughing hard!
Don’t miss it! Cirque Du Soleil Saltimbanco will run in Manila from August 9 to 19, 2012 only! Last few days!!!

**By the way, try watching the clowns in the background. They’re hilarious!!
