Fun at Expo Kid II
by Cheryl Villareal on Oct 6th, 2010
After a night out with my friends, I got up early on a Saturday morning to head to the Expo Kid II at Rockwell. The event was jam-packed and I honestly wanted to attend all the workshops but knew it wasn't possible due to my tight schedule. So while I was busy deciding, my best friend Patricia suddenly comes up to me and tells me to accompany her to an event. When asked what event, she answered Expo Kid II. Turns out, her student will be leading ...Read More » Tags Share Comments (0 )

Name Recognition Part 3
by Cheryl Villareal on Sep 25th, 2010
In my past posts, I shared different ways to help children recognize their own names. I shared music, and pre-reading skills.. So this time, let's do some art! It's always important that the kids at least become familiar with the first letter of their names . What you will need: Any small objects that can be glued (bottle caps, sequins, glitter, sand etc.) Print out of their name with the first letter emphasized . . Just l...Read More » Tags Share Comments (0 )

Superkids 2010 and the 31st International Book Fair
by Cheryl Villareal on Sep 19th, 2010
Have you visited Superkids 2010? I visited the bazaar this morning, it was a little bit smaller than expected but it still had a lot of interactive activities for the kids. There were several shows which I unfortunately was not able to catch. The Superkids 2010 was set on the same date and venue as the 31st international book fair. Today is the last day of Superkids , but lucky for you, the book fair still has one more day to go! Go cat...Read More » Tags Share Comments (0 )

Name Recognition: Learning to Read Part 2
by Cheryl Villareal on Sep 16th, 2010
Check out Name Recognition Part 1 in case you haven't seen it! As mentioned in Part 1, we sing the song "Hello, hello, hello" daily to let the kids practice saying their names! Another tip I can share with you is to LABEL everything! At the beginning, we labeled their cubbyholes, tables and chairs with their pictures. After a month, we added their name to the picture. After another month or two, we removed the picture and all that was left wer...Read More » Tags Share Comments (0 )

Name Recognition Part 1
by Cheryl Villareal on Sep 12th, 2010
One of the first things a child should learn as they enter school is their names! Some parents and teachers would think that this is obvious and need not be reviewed, but you'd be surprised as to how many toddlers and even nursery-aged children still have difficulty saying or recognizing their names. There are also a few who don't really know their names yet, such that calling them by name would not get their attention. You'd have to tap them to ...Read More » Tags Share Comments (1 )

Getting a C in Art is unacceptable!
by Cheryl Villareal on Sep 6th, 2010
Now I'm not sure how others would define art, or what other people think art is really all about. But to me, art is all about freedom of expression. What one person describes as a masterpiece may be considered horrible by others... but it's still a work of art. Coloring, drawing, painting, dancing, singing... all different kinds of art... all beautiful in its own way, regardless of style or genre. . So what does all this have to do with tea...Read More » Tags Share Comments (3 )

Average is the New Exceptional!
by Cheryl Villareal on Sep 4th, 2010
A beautiful speech from an average student of Binghamton University! Take time to watch this and really understand the power each of us has. Never underestimate yourself... never underestimate your students... we are mostly average people who simply need a little push to do the extraordinary! You don't need to be someone BIG to make a change, you just need to be who you are. "Average is knowing that you don't receive respect, you EARN it. ...Read More » Tags Share Comments (2 )

SUPERKIDS 2010
by Cheryl Villareal on Aug 29th, 2010
Preschool teachers like myself always try to look for good teaching materials in the market. We look for puzzles, games, charts, toys and more! We look for good materials that can be used for pretend play, art and skill development. We even rummage through books at every Booksale branch hoping to find a good book less 90% from its original price! The thing is, it's not easy. There are only a few shops here in Manila (or in the Philippines) that s...Read More » Tags Share Comments (2 )
