Square Collage
by Cheryl Villareal on Sep 5th, 2010
While my co-teachers and I were discussing this activity, I thought to myself... "I wonder how a collage filled with just one shape turn out?" At first, I was even imagining a really boring art work filled with simple squares. But then, as we continued to brainstorm, we decided to use a variety of colors, patterns, sizes and textures. Slowly but surely, the simple square collage became a very lively and creative sensory art! . . What you...Read More » Tags Share Comments (1 )

Flower crafts!
by Cheryl Villareal on Aug 30th, 2010
I've seen several different ways to make flowers... but we wanted to make something 3D! So after several experiments trying to come up with something easy for little hands to make... we came up with this! Not only do the kids get to make flowers... but they get to review shapes while doing it! We're actually on the topic of squares this week, and had just finished our discussion on circles. Hence, we used the square and circle shape. Of course...Read More » Tags Share Comments (3 )

SUPERKIDS 2010
by Cheryl Villareal on Aug 29th, 2010
Preschool teachers like myself always try to look for good teaching materials in the market. We look for puzzles, games, charts, toys and more! We look for good materials that can be used for pretend play, art and skill development. We even rummage through books at every Booksale branch hoping to find a good book less 90% from its original price! The thing is, it's not easy. There are only a few shops here in Manila (or in the Philippines) that s...Read More » Tags Share Comments (2 )

Miles for Smiles: Our Victorious Results
by Cheryl Villareal on Aug 22nd, 2010
After a month of waiting... the day of the race finally arrived! A month ago, I remember asking everyone I knew if they wanted to join my running team! You see, participating in the run as a team would automatically sponsor the cleft operation of one child! I wanted to be a part of that! It was difficult finding my 9 team mates because of the distance we had to run and the price we had to pay. Running as a team was 15,000 pesos (1,500 each) for 1...Read More » Tags Share Comments (1 )

Pasta Painting
by Cheryl Villareal on Aug 19th, 2010
I'm the type of teacher who really likes those messy art activities! I feel that children are able to express themselves better this way! I like that they are free to be as messy as they want to be for a while. That being said, this activity I'm about to share is one of my favorites! It wasn't as messy as I imagined it to be since the kids were in their school uniforms, but it was still a lot of fun! We were on the topic of long and short but ...Read More » Tags Share Comments (2 )

Run to Read: Results of my first 10km run
by Cheryl Villareal on Aug 17th, 2010
Last Aug. 15, I ran my first 10k marathon! I originally wanted to sign up for the 5k run (as I always do) but unfortunately, I was told that there were no more slots! Hence, my fiancè took it a challenge and registered us both for the 10k run! My initial reaction: "OMG?! WTF! I'm gonna die!" And of course, he had to slap me back to sanity!.... but seriously, I was nervous. . The PRE-RUN Philippe (my fiancè) and I registered for the run...Read More » Tags Share Comments (0 )

Elephant CDs
by Cheryl Villareal on Aug 12th, 2010
Do you still have your old CDs from way back and have no idea what to do with them? Well why not turn them into animals? This week, our class studied the concepts of long and short! So to further strengthen the discussion, we had them make elephant CDs and play with its long nose! As I showed them a sample, I also showed them how the nose started short and grew longer and longer! It's really easy to do and the kids had a lot of fun stretching ...Read More » Tags Share Comments (1 )

Oh my gosh! no words can explain how happy I was... or still am that I got to watch this!!! I've wanted so bad to watch it but can't due to money constraints. Just the night before, my good friend, Fil told me that he got complimentary tickets and asked if I wanted to go with him. It was really a spur of the moment.. but hey, that's CATS!!! Had to make time for that! So what if I was tired and lacked sleep? There was no way I was missing out on t...Read More » Tags Share Comments (2 )

Fruit Loop Bracelets
by Cheryl Villareal on Jul 31st, 2010
Children.. and even adults love eating fruit loops! So why not use this to further strengthen the lesson? This specific activity is actually a lacing activity that helps develop fine motor skills. It would also be easier for older kids to do since young children’s fine motor skills are not yet fully developed. Still, the end product works for all ages. The teachers simply need to assist the young children more in doing this activity. Since w...Read More » Tags Share Comments (1 )
