Swim Bike Run 101: A Multisport Lecture Series
by Cheryl Villareal on Apr 16th, 2011
Exactly what is MULTISPORT? Well the word explains itself. Multi sport, multiple sports. Being an amateur runner, I never even thought of the term. Could you imagine that? I often hear the term because of the magazine with the same title, but I never really gave more thought to it until recently. - Early this week, I was invited to an event by sponsored by Multisport entitled 101 SWIM, BIKE, RUN. I was hesitant at first as I imagined triath...Read More » Tags Share Comments (632 )

Flowery Suncatchers for Spring
by Cheryl Villareal on Apr 10th, 2011
Spring is here! Hooray! Although we do not have spring in the Philippines, the idea is still there. I always imagine scenes in cartoons where the snow slowly melts and the flowers blossom. Oh and Bambi and his friends all fall in love. (heehee) During our unit on nature, we decide to make some lovely flower suncatcher! It was such a fun activity to make and the kids reaction as to how the paper was sticking was priceless! - What you will...Read More » Tags Share Comments (1 )

Negative Painting – White paint on Black paper
by Cheryl Villareal on Apr 6th, 2011
It's always fun to do art, and it's even more fun when we do it in an unusual way! So since we're all used to painting colors on white paper, why not try painting on black paper instead? Moreover, why not try painting the outside instead of inside? Here's another fun way of painting that can be done in a few simple steps! Younger kids can do it the simple way with a little guidance while older kids can do the cutting part on their own! - ...Read More » Tags Share Comments (1 )

Results and Aftermath of the All Women’s Run
by Cheryl Villareal on Mar 24th, 2011
I don't usually join Saturday runs because I still feel tired from work the day before. I usually spend my Saturdays bumming around the house, but this Saturday, I was given the great opportunity to join the All Women's Run! As I always tell my friends, "basta RunRio, Sulit!" and I was once again NOT disappointed. - I arrived 5-10 minutes after the 5k gun start and started almost together with the 3k runners. I felt really sad and did not r...Read More » Tags Share Comments (0 )

Making Hand Puppets using Brown Paper Bags
by Cheryl Villareal on Mar 16th, 2011
When young children see puppets, they usually react in 2 ways. One is that they'd be really thrilled and excited, and the other is that they'd be scared out of their wits and start crying at the top of their lungs. I usually prefer them giving me the first reaction, but kids will be kids. - When the year started, I only had around 1 or 2 kids out of who were afraid of puppets. At first, I was unsure if I should tell them that there's someon...Read More » Tags Share Comments (0 )

Thoughts and Result of the RunRio Trilogy Leg 1 for 2011
by Cheryl Villareal on Mar 9th, 2011
Months before the race started, I was already feeling very eager and excited. Last year, I joined all 3 legs of the RunRio trilogy, and this year, I hope to achieve the same. I convinced my friends Jessica and Mon to join me and my fiance Philippe in the run. They were hesitant at first because of the price, but I convinced them Rio organized races were well worth it! They finally gave in and registered. I'm sure they did not regret it. :) The...Read More » Tags Share Comments (1 )

Learning about PATTERNS through this LION-MANE making activity
by Cheryl Villareal on Mar 5th, 2011
I was browsing the net looking for ideas to teach my little kids about patterns. A lot of really cool ideas came up but I didn't have much time to prepare for them. Moreover, the art ideas I saw were not that easy for young children to do. I wanted one that did not take too long to make but would get the point across. I didn't want them to take too long figuring out how to do it that they forget why they were doing it in the first place. Final...Read More » Tags Share Comments (1 )

Globe Run for Home 2011 at the Bonifacio Global City and Makati Central Business District
by Cheryl Villareal on Mar 3rd, 2011
In its run last 2009, Globe Run For Home introduced the use of timing chips. I must say, these chips have proven to be very useful over the past years. It's also what I usually look for if a race asks for more than 500php. On it's 2nd run last 2010, Globe Run for Home decided to use recycled PET bottles for the singlets! I'm not sure how to explain PET bottles to those who don't know, but basically, these are the plastic bottles of mineral wate...Read More » Tags Share Comments (1 )

Tooth Brushing a Hard Boiled Egg
by Cheryl Villareal on Feb 25th, 2011
This month, it's all about hygiene for my little toddlers. For days I've been trying to come up with an activity related to brushing our teeth! I found several coloring pages or arts and crafts wherein the child would make a paper toothbrush, but I wasn't satisfied. I wanted the kids to really do something that practices their brushing and makes them more aware of why they need to brush. - Just when I was about to give up, I came across somethi...Read More » Tags Share Comments (2 )
