Little Pigs Role Playing
by Cheryl Villareal on Mar 12th, 2011
For our unit on family.. we decided to invite some of the parents to come and be the teachers for the day. Through this, they get to share a little bit of their expertise such as cooking, art and stories! We had so much fun watching the parents teach the kids... and I honestly learned a lot from them as well! - Besides giving parents the opportunity to teach and share their knowledge, this also gives us the opportunity to spend time with th...Read More » Tags Share Comments (1 )

Thoughts and Result of the RunRio Trilogy Leg 1 for 2011
by Cheryl Villareal on Mar 9th, 2011
Months before the race started, I was already feeling very eager and excited. Last year, I joined all 3 legs of the RunRio trilogy, and this year, I hope to achieve the same. I convinced my friends Jessica and Mon to join me and my fiance Philippe in the run. They were hesitant at first because of the price, but I convinced them Rio organized races were well worth it! They finally gave in and registered. I'm sure they did not regret it. :) The...Read More » Tags Share Comments (1 )

New Risks of the Online Community. Be warned!
by Cheryl Villareal on Mar 7th, 2011
Technology is a good thing, there are a lot of things we were unable to do 10 years ago that are really easy to do nowadays. We can't complain that technology really gave us a push into the sci-fi world we were only dreaming about a couple of years ago. But all good things have limits, and technology has several downsides as well. I know a bunch of friends who love using foursquare. Through GPS, your exact location is automatically posted onli...Read More » Tags Share Comments (0 )

Learning about PATTERNS through this LION-MANE making activity
by Cheryl Villareal on Mar 5th, 2011
I was browsing the net looking for ideas to teach my little kids about patterns. A lot of really cool ideas came up but I didn't have much time to prepare for them. Moreover, the art ideas I saw were not that easy for young children to do. I wanted one that did not take too long to make but would get the point across. I didn't want them to take too long figuring out how to do it that they forget why they were doing it in the first place. Final...Read More » Tags Share Comments (1 )

Globe Run for Home 2011 at the Bonifacio Global City and Makati Central Business District
by Cheryl Villareal on Mar 3rd, 2011
In its run last 2009, Globe Run For Home introduced the use of timing chips. I must say, these chips have proven to be very useful over the past years. It's also what I usually look for if a race asks for more than 500php. On it's 2nd run last 2010, Globe Run for Home decided to use recycled PET bottles for the singlets! I'm not sure how to explain PET bottles to those who don't know, but basically, these are the plastic bottles of mineral wate...Read More » Tags Share Comments (1 )

Tooth Brushing a Hard Boiled Egg
by Cheryl Villareal on Feb 25th, 2011
This month, it's all about hygiene for my little toddlers. For days I've been trying to come up with an activity related to brushing our teeth! I found several coloring pages or arts and crafts wherein the child would make a paper toothbrush, but I wasn't satisfied. I wanted the kids to really do something that practices their brushing and makes them more aware of why they need to brush. - Just when I was about to give up, I came across somethi...Read More » Tags Share Comments (2 )

Eggshell Art
by Cheryl Villareal on Feb 22nd, 2011
It's always fun to play with eggs! It's one of the first things we learn to cook, we can paint it especially during Easter, we can turn them into Humpty Dumpty and more! Besides the egg itself, we could also make use of the egg carton to make a variety of arts and crafts! In this case, we made use of just the eggshells! We were learning about the color white, and eggshells came to mind. - We didn't want to cook eggs just to take the eggshel...Read More » Tags Share Comments (1 )

Daddy and Me Shape Collage
by Cheryl Villareal on Feb 18th, 2011
It's always fun to play with shapes! You can always come up with a random things just by putting them all together. For our theme on family, we decided to play with some shapes and make a picture with daddy! - This activity not only puts the children's imagination to a test, but it also gives us teachers the opportunity to start a small conversation with our students about their relationships with either their mom or dad. For older kids, yo...Read More » Tags Share Comments (1 )

by Cheryl Villareal on Feb 13th, 2011
I wanted to share my own idea for Valentines day, however, the kids won't be doing it until the day itself. While thinking of ideas though, I came across so many wonderful ideas that I decided to share them with my readers! - Remember, Valentines day is not only for those with a man or woman in his life, but for everyone who loves and is being loved... either by a special someone, a family member or a friend! Bib Necklace of Family Members
by Cheryl Villareal on Feb 11th, 2011
There are so many activities that come to mind when you think of FAMILIES, however, we try not to be too redundant else risk our students getting bored. - We wondered what activity we could do that would make the children more aware of the number of people in their families, as well as recognize the roles each one plays. We thought of several ideas, but none which really made us say, "This is it!"... until... - My co-teacher told me a...Read More » Tags Share Comments (0 )
